In 1996, I received a commission to design a watch for Swatch as part of an Woman Artist Series.  The Robert Koch Gallery in San Francisco who represents my work was instrumental in securing the commission. Jean Vanheurck, owner of the Swatch Vintage Collection, Belgium will be auctioning an original unworn watch on March 5, 2026. I created an 8x10" image to accompany the watch for the collector, which incorporates the same 19thC engraving that was used for the watch design.    https://swatchvintagecollection.com/                                                                                                                                          Photo of watch by Jean Vanheurck

The Ticking Brain

Notes for the Collector

The brain is the time piece, ticking relentlessly on. Neurologists call our endless train of thoughts The Default Mode Network, while Buddhist monks seek relief from this “train” through meditation. Typically the mind is optimistically pursuing plans for a perfect future or pondering the imperfect past...while too often ignoring the present.

Meanwhile, in spite of your thoughts, blood pulses through your veins and the hands of time tick each minute of your finite existence. Through the watch band you see your own skin. There it is! Your life, your skin. The ticking brain watch reminds you to savor each precious moment of your special life, perhaps even paying attention to the pleasures of the present.
